Wedding photography - York Wedding Suppliers photo shoot at The Artful Dodger

I set up York Wedding Suppliers about 8 years ago as I wanted to be a part of a group of local wedding suppliers who could work together and recommend each other. The group works so well as we meet on a regular basis so know each other personally and can recommend each other with confidence. Obviously our industry has been affected  massively by Covid, but we have keep the meetings going on Zoom, and even done a virtual wedding fair. Recently we were able to organise a photo shoot in person and it was brilliant to be able to do this again!

One of our members, The Artful Dodger down Micklegate in York, have diversified over the lockdown period and are now offering their venue for small weddings. It is a beautiful space in the centre of York and we made the most of it for our shoot, to showcase the venue and also some of our member's services.

Have a look at www.yorkweddingsuppliers.co.uk for more info about our group.

Wedding photography - Thicket Priory

I think I can safely say that in over 20 years of being in business I have never had a year with so few weddings! A total of one, since the first lockdown began! Until the other day, when I did my second one in a year! I absolutely love working at weddings - big or small, long or short, I love every single one! I am so lucky that during the pandemic I have been very busy with property photography and have managed to keep going. However, I have really missed weddings, so Michelle and Martin's special day was a real pleasure.

Michelle and Martin had originally booked me for another date, but, like so many others, had to rearrange. Their new date the other day was perfect weather wise, bright but not too sunny. Michelle looked gorgeous, and the venue was amazing. Thicket Priory, near Wheldrake, is a fairly new wedding venue, and I have to say that it is absolutely stunning. So many opportunities for photos, I could have spent all day just getting pics of the bride and groom! From the building itself, to the lake, the bridges, the woodland, the driveway. Not to mention the amazing huge staircase inside, with mirrors, gorgeous windows, stunning bedrooms, and even it's own chapel. It is a photographer's dream!

Michelle and Martin were fab to work with - so easy going and lovely, and my natural style of working fitted perfectly as part of their day. It was so nice come back to wedding photography after such a long time. I have a few more weddings to look forward to this year and I cannot wait! I think 2022 might be a very busy year, when hopefully all restrictions will have eased. It is however, at the moment, perfectly possible to have a gorgeous day in Covid times, and with such a beautiful venue it couldn't have been better.

Wedding photography and wedding venue photography

During the Covid crisis, all the weddings I had booked for this spring and summer have rearranged. Luckily I am free on all the new dates, so I can look forward to doing them next year. However, I have missed doing wedding photography this season! So this job at the gorgeous Highcliffe Manor, Flamborough Head, was fantastic!

The brief was to get some lovely location shots of the amazing venue, rooms set up for a wedding, exteriors, bedrooms, and a general showcase of the venue. It is a stunning place, and absolutely perfect for a wedding. I was in my element! I was also asked to get some shots of the gentleman who owns the venue, and his family. His stunning granddaughters modelled bridal gowns for me, and the locations to get great shots, in and around the venue, were endless. I was lucky enough to work with Hayley Smith Venue Stylist, Rosebud Flowers and Treasured Brides. A great team of talented and lovely people!

This was a great shoot at a fabulous location, and it was so nice to capture some wedding images after what feels like so long, even if it wasn't a "real wedding". Wedding photography has been my passion for so many years, and this was fab!

Wedding Photography - details of the day

Wedding photography is my greatest passion when it comes to my job, and I am so lucky to be involved in so many lovely happy days!

My style is very natural and informal and whilst I am happy to capture group shots, I never let them take over the day. I spend time with each couple getting lovely artistic yet natural shots of them, and I also allow time to capture the informal candid moments. It is also important to get shots of the lovely details of each day, so the couple can remember the little touches that made their day unique forever.

Bridal preps start with set up shots of the dress, shoes, flowers, jewellery etc, and I think this is a perfect way to start the day. Then I move on the groom and his party, and capture button holes, cuff links, shoes etc. Throughout the day I am always looking out for those special details, such as signs, pillar boxes, table decorations, favours, bunting ...

Details of the day are what makes each wedding unique and make sure I capture as many as I can on each lovely wedding day.
